The Andromeda galaxy, M31, is surrounded by several smaller satellite galaxies in space. It is also a member of the Local Group of Galaxies, which includes our Milky Way. On the sky, faint gas clouds within our own Milky Way appear to surround M31. These clouds are usually too faint for the unaided eye to see.
