A Whale of an Aurora over Swedish Forest
This spectacular auroral display over a Swedish forest was caused by a coronal mass ejection from the Sun. A cloud of electrons, protons, and ions impacted Earth's magnetosphere, creating these lights. This particularly photogenic auroral corona was captured above a forest overlooking the city of Östersund. To some, it resembles a whale in the sky.
