The Once and Future Stars of Andromeda
This composite image of the Andromeda Galaxy, M31, reveals both existing stars and regions where new stars will soon form. Visible light shows current stars in white and blue. Data from space and ground-based observatories combine to show star-forming regions outside the visible spectrum. M31 is our closest large spiral neighbor, 2.5 million light-years away.
