A Deep Sky Behind an Eclipsed Moon
NASA APOD · Andrei Ionut Dascalu
COSMIC MESSAGE
During a total lunar eclipse, the dim, reddened Moon appears next to the colorful Rho Ophiuchi clouds. This region, about 460 light years away, is a star-forming area in the Milky Way's central band. The Earth's shadow makes the Moon visible against the deep sky, allowing a view of both.
