Active Galaxy NGC 1275
Active galaxy NGC 1275 is the central, dominant member of the Perseus Cluster of Galaxies. It is a prodigious source of X-rays and radio emission, and appears wild-looking at visible wavelengths. NGC 1275 accretes matter as entire galaxies fall into it, feeding a supermassive black hole at its core. This Hubble Space Telescope image, recorded in 2006, highlights the resulting galactic debris and filaments.
