August 10th marked the 50th anniversary of the launch of Lunar Orbiter 1. This spacecraft, the first of five, photographed the Moon's surface to help select future landing sites. Its camera captured the data for this restored, high-resolution image of Earth from the Moon on August 23, 1966.
