In the Heart of the Tarantula Nebula
The heart of the Tarantula Nebula contains huge bubbles of energetic gas, long filaments of dark dust, and unusually massive stars. At its center is a dense knot of stars, once thought to be a single star, now known as the star cluster R136 or NGC 2070. This cluster is home to a great number of hot, young stars. Their energetic light continuously ionizes the nebula's gas, while their particle winds blow away surrounding material.
